BIE januari 2015, p. 2-7, Ulrich Hildebrandt: "Germany enacted a new design law this year. On 1st January 2014 the law for the modernisation of the German industrial design law, as well as for the amendment of the stipulations on the disclosure of exhibition protection of 10th October 2013,29 came, for the large part, into force. It contains two fundamental reforms in industrial design law.
Introduction of the Term “Design”
What was formerly known in the German language as the “Geschmacksmuster” is now identified as the “eingetragenes Design” (“registered design”). The German law on design protection (formerly “Geschmacksmustergesetz”) has now become “design law”, thereby taking into account changes in linguistic usage and furthering the understanding of the content of trademark law. The former “Geschmacksmuster” (a word no German native speaker was ever able to understand) is a “Design” now (an Anglicism every German native speaker will understand)."
